Stuff
For all the Frank TV fans, The show has started out very well. Lots of new fans, lots of loyal fans tuning in every week. We've done 5 shows and I'm very proud of all of them. The show is a goofy...and fun... and it was a lot of hard work making it... but a lot of fun, too.
A little side note: How about episode 2's special appearance by Joey Caliendo, my son? After it aired he was on the phone with everyone he knew (he's 3 years old) asking "did you see me on tv? was i silly? was i silly?"... yep bud, you were silly. only took us 3 hours to get 30 seconds of tv... ha.
Lets see, what were some of the highlights of the media tour? I'll tell you ... there were so many different things that I got to do...
One crazy thing happened while i was over at sirius satellite radio... i was on the nfl station...and mike ditka came in from behind me and scared the living daylights out of me... "finally got ya kid!", he yelled out... how did i not hear him coming? you can hear that gum being chewed from a mile away...
I got so much support from all the radio folks out there... from my good friends...to all kinds of shows i'd never done before... so much thanks to all of you.
I probably waited too long to write all this stuff...i'm coming up blank as i try and remember all of it... maybe i'll just have to do one story at a time as they come back to me... i'm sure webmasterT would be happy to get lots of little stories on here.
Anyway, here's the story on Frank TV... we shot 5 of our 8 episodes...and then got shut down by the writer's strike... so we're done for now... nobody really knows what's going on... hollywood really is hollyWEIRD right now... just an odd place... lots of scared folks.....lots of confusion, etc...
I talked to the network... and they're looking at different strategies for the next wave of Frank Tv. I've been assured that they're thrilled with the content of the shows...and the ratings as well... so all looks good for a lots more episodes to come... but we just don't know when. for now, there aren't any plans for the reruns...i think you can get them on itunes, though... or you can get links to watch them online for free here
so, tuesdays will have some other stuff in latenight for a while... (by the way, the show "10 items or less", another tbs original series, starts in a couple of weeks... it was always set to premiere (for the season) at that time... so don't think that frank tv has been replaced.... we rotate with them as far as the schedule goes.... right now... tbs has sex in the city reruns-- until '10 items' starts... there were 3 empty weeks from the episodes we weren't able to do because of the strike...
i'll definitely let people know when we're re-airing...and doing new episodes. hopefully, the writer's strike ends sooner than later...the writers get treated fairly, and everyone can get back to work...
reality shows....ugh.
oh... and this is such a tease...but there's lots of "frank" stuff that's about to be announced...some really big things happening... everything isn't quite signed sealed and delivered... but when it is...we'll let you know right here.. hopefully in a couple of weeks i can let you know what the dealio is....and it'll blow your freakin' mind....
ha... it's like dane cook wrote that last line.
anyway.... some good stuff coming... more soon.

TBS’s FRANK TV Scores Big Premiere with 2.9 Million Viewers
Sketch Comedy Featuring Master Impressionist Frank Caliendo (MadTV)
Outperforms 2007-to-date Premiere Telecasts of Popular Broadcast and Cable Late-Night Series
TBS has once again scored a major triumph on the original series front with its new late-night sketch comedy series FRANK TV, which last night delivered 2.9 million viewers, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen Media Research. The show, which stars master impressionist Frank Caliendo (MadTV), also outdelivered the 2007-to-date premiere telecast averages among key adult demos for such popular late-night series as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
“After a summer in which we celebrated the top-rated premieres of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and The Bill Engvall Show, TBS is keeping the fire burning into fall with yet another superb series launch,” said Steve Koonin. “With FRANK TV joining the line-up, we have proven once again that TBS is the television destination for outstanding comedy from some of the best talents in the business.”
Ratings highlights for the premiere of FRANK TV on TBS:
· Last night, TBS’s premiere of FRANK TV scored a strong 2.1 coverage household rating and averaged 2,872,000 viewers; 2,050,000 households; 1,084,000 adults 18-34; 1,856,000 adults 18-49 and 1,715,000 adults 25-54.
· Among TBS’s targeted adults 18-34 and adults 18-49 demographics, FRANK TV outdelivered the 2007-to-date averages for new episodes of such late-night series as The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Last Call with Carson Daly, The Late Late Show with Craig Furguson, Jimmy Kimmel Live and MadTV. It also beat the 2007-to-date average for new episodes of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno among adults 18-34.
FRANK TV, which airs Tuesdays at 11 p.m. (ET/PT) on TBS, is a sketch comedy series that features comic everyman and master impressionist Frank Caliendo, famous for his pitch-perfect takes on everyone from John Madden and George Bush to Dr. Phil and Robert DeNiro. Named by Variety in 2007 as one of 10 comics to watch, Caliendo has cultivated fans through almost every means possible. His presence on YouTube and MySpace resulted in what one blogger called “The Caliendo Effect,” marking the shift from traditional entertainment outlets to the Internet. Caliendo’s spot-on impression of President Bush earned him an invitation to perform during the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, where he brought down the house. Sports fans know him for his weekly picks on Fox NFL Sunday, which he delivers as a wide variety of characters and personalities, including the John Madden impression for which he is most famous. Late-night comedy fans remember him as a regular cast member on the popular MadTV sketch comedy series, as well as from his regular appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. And he performs to sold-out crowds in comedy venues across the country.
FRANK TV is being produced for TBS Productions by New Wave Entertainment® and executive-produced and written by Caliendo, Matt Wickline (In Living Color) and John Bowman (Saturday Night Live), with Barry Katz (Last Comic Standing) also serving as executive producer. Brian Volk-Weiss (Bachelor No. 2, Good Luck Chuck) and Leo Clarke (Moesha, The Steve Harvey Show) serve as producers for the series, while Jay Karas (The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show) and Rich Correll (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, That’s So Raven) serve as directors.
TBS, a division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., is television’s top-rated comedy network. It serves as home to such original comedy series as My Boys, The Bill Engvall Show, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Frank TV and 10 Items or Less; hot contemporary comedies like The Office, Sex and the City, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Guy, King of Queens, Seinfeld and Friends, with My Name Is Earl joining the line-up in 2008; specials and special events, such as Funniest Commercials of the Year and The Comedy Festival in Las Vegas; blockbuster movies; and hosted movie showcases.
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.

this blog interrupted by a frank tv promo
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but there are a few commercials out for my show. If you're a baseball fan...what can I say?
"sorry" might come to mind... ha.... There are a ton of people who love them.....i get tons of great emails every day.... thanks to all of you!!! I apprecify it. There are the people who dislike them, too...but I'm happy to say: "I can't do anything about it" double ha.
Hey, here's something a little different.... The other day, my friend, and a writer on my show, we'll call him Rich T, said "its interesting to see this happening to someone and see it happening behind the scenes". I said "what?" he said "becoming famous". I guess we'll see if that happens..even for just 15 minutes... but it is interesting, to say the least. People love you more than ever before...and people hate you more than ever before... its amazing how people can be so divided. Hey, I'm just out there trying my best. I didn't "buy time" on TBS to put myself out there. They made the decision to do it. They believe in my show...and they want people to know about it and see it. For the people aren't "fond" of the promos, Imagine being me...having to watch my giant head two times in a single commercial break sometimes... I'm my own biggest critic, you have no idea.
The show looks to be a ton of fun... We have an amazing group of writers...and I can't believe how much they're coming up with... Truly amazing stuff. You'll see...sooner than later...
We had a great week with fox nfl Sunday last week, too... Nothing beats Terry Bradshaw on "are you smarter than a 5th grader"...and the answer was a resounding "no" ha. thanks to TB for taking yet another beating from me in stride... and Thanks to Captain Curt for mentioning the show coming out on TBS. VERY FUNNY... not the catch phrase... it was just funny how he mentioned it.
Anyway, more soon... Even more guests coming up on fox this week... as my producer says "its our will and grace year"... although i'm not sure if he means because of the guests...or if its because he's always hugging other guys... what? not that there's anything wrong with that. (seinfeld guitar plays)
anyway... that's it for now... more soon.

NFL Week One-der (Part 2)
somehow a graphic got put on wrong on fox...and it looked like i picked the eagles... but i did pick the pack. i've already gotten a couple angry emails from "fans" upset that i picked against their team... people should realize..its not who we (me and the others who make the decisions on the picks)...its who we think will win.... we were 50 percent correct.... not bad for week one... not good.. but not bad... week one in the nfl always has surprises.
lots of people loved the costas bit on fox...and i heard he told someone over at fox that it went over well at nbc... i have to give him another call and thank him personally... it was so great of him to do that bit.
anyway... next week we start all over again... new bit... hopefully funny...even if terry says it isn't. ha. now that's funna.

NFL Week Ond-der
If you didn't see today's bit, Bob Costas punched me out... no, not a guy playing Bob Costas... the actual guy... We've made fun of him so many times (for no reason...and really not in an intelligent way.. just some pot shots just to try and get an extra laugh)... It was great that he did it. He's such a nice guy... and showed that someone can take a joke.
Just got back from San Fran and Seattle... Two great football cities...and i had a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone who came out.
Picks for the week:
Packers over the Eagles
Rams over the Panthers
Chargers over Bears
Bills over Broncos (upset pick)
On another note...I think I need to stop eating carbs and get some new pictures for the pregame show.. .ouch... talk about a round face... call me moonpie.
Frank-TV update. We start writing this week... so we'll know how the show is going to shape up pretty soon. Shooting promos for the show next week... So you'll start to see those all over TBS in a month or so... Should be a lot of exposure in the next couple months...
Ok.. .more to come... my bret favre is back!!!
Oh. one more thing... Appearing as myself on Craig Ferguson on monday... doing a John Madden bit with Dave on Tuesday (that's Letterman, folks... ha)...and Wednesday on Carson Daly's show. And Sept 14th, my XM radio "takeover" should air on channel 150.

Celebrity Blog Tourney
anyway, it was really amazing to look out into the crowd and see people like joe theisman, mark rypien, vince coleman, ben rothlesberger, dan marino, mario lemieaux, digger phelps and other famous people laughing and having fun with my silliness... there were many others whose names i also could have misspelled and let you know about. (i think i spelled vince coleman correctly, at least)...
maybe that's how i'll retire...i'll become the king of the celebrity golf outings... i can only do a few things per year like that... but these were all a blast... (www.mariolemieux.org , www.moyerfoundation.org, and the roger marris foundation ). lots of very nice people... and amazing experiences...
luckily, i wasn't stuck on the tarmac for any of these dates...and i got to everything on time... ha.
here's a little other news... it was announced that i'm headlining gator growl this year... (the worlds largest student run pep ralley in gainsville, florida)... so that's going to be great as well.
look for the fox promos to start soon... and i'll talk at ya'all later. ("ya'all" is southern for "you" -- i'm working on my blue collar type of comedy, i guess).
more soon.

FOX NFL Mundane -- NOT
I think i've told people this... but i'm not sure if i have... i'm a little bit more "involved" with the fox pregame show this year... my picks segment is the same length... a couple of minutes during the show... but i've been told its being moved closer to the game... i'm also a part of the "team" now... i'm in all the promo's and ads, etc. kind of like the "little brother" of the team -- the one that they're all kicking and punching all the time.
I had a blast with the guys over the two days that we shot. People always see Terry as having fun... but Howie and Jimmy are no strangers to insanity. (Curt, the newest member of the desk team was with us...but he lives in LA...so he was going home in between shoots while everyone else was at the hotel and restaurant)...
Terry, Howie and Jimmy can't go anywhere without people trying to take pictures, etc. Its crazy... People (mostly from other countries) who don't even know who they are just see other people trying to get their pictures taken with them -- and they try to get their pictures taken, too...
it was really insane... but i had a blast with the guys... i'll write more of the adventures later... i have to figure out what i can write without making anyone uncomfortable... (for those of you hoping to hear stories of strippers or anything like that......there wasn't anything of that sort... nothing dirty at all... just silliness... like the fact that howie drives everyone around... its like a sitcom... or almost a south park episode making fun of them... you can't imagine going down the freeway...and seeing all the double takes from other drivers as they see howie driving terry and jimmy and me to the hotel ... it was insane...it almost seemed like a crazy commercial for fox nfl sunday).
more soon.

Philly Cheesesteak ... hold the plane, please.
Now, Lets get to Cleveland.... It was going to be perfect. the NBA had looked at my schedule and decided to schedule the CAVs games around my Friday and Saturday shows..... The Saturday shows (my only shows) at Pickwick's Hilarities were awesome as well.. Columbus-like... Hilarities is more like a theater than most clubs. They have a balcony section...and its really beautiful -- almost as beautiful as the food they serve. (its truly and amazing place). Another one of my favorite clubs in the country.....
"They're in my 5"-- Charles Barkley.
If it seems odd that only the Saturday shows were great... Well, you're onto something. I was supposed to be there Friday as well... but what happened? You may want to look away from the computer right now... because what you're about to read is gross!!!!! ok... so maybe its not gross-out...its just plain ridiculous...
Friday was a surreal day for me. It started out great. Hanging out with my new friends from WMMR in Philadelphia... Preston and Steve... I was there almost the whole morning... Talking up the shows for the Borgata in Atlantic City in a couple of weeks... Rarely am I able to just sit in with a show and just become part of it... (For the people in Phoenix...it was a lot like hanging out with John and Brady... Not so much Eric... but... that's another story... I kid Eric because I love... I don't love him... I just love making fun of him... kidding again... that's double kidding... which is just stupid. sorry) Anyway, I left the show and got to the airport for my 1pm flight... Everything seemed to be on time... SEEMED was the key word...if you're keeping score at home....
I don't know if you saw the news...but there were HUGE air traffic delays on the east coast...Something went wrong with the radar... there was a computer glitch...or something...I don't know what it was...I didn't read the news, I was too busy being a part of it.....Anyway.... We boarded that plane a little before 1pm... and we didn't leave until ....well,...we didn't leave. That's what I'm getting to here... did it take a while? Welcome to the club. That's how it felt on the plane... We sat on a commuter jet on the runway for 9 hours. We got out of the fake plane at 10:30 pm. (we did get off the plane for about an hour sometime around 4pm... but were back on it a short time later == actual time on the fake plane was 8 hours...9 hours including the potty break). So...9 hours..and we never even went anywhere. It was just pathetic... I thought this kind of stuff wasn't supposed to happen after the JET BLUE incident... well, i thought wrong...
So here's the deal. I missed 2 shows in Cleveland... That's never happened to me before... Not anywhere...I'd never missed a show in 10 years...and now...the streak is broken. Call Guinness...not for a record but for a beer... its time to start over. Yippee kay Yay mother fruiter.
I'm sorry to everyone at HIlarities that came out on Friday night expecting to see me. I had every intention of getting there until the last minutes. In fact, they held the show back a half an hour hoping I'd get there in time to go on stage. THEY HAD A POLICE ESCORT READY TO GET ME FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE CLUB. I had my father in law bring my pants up to the club (I traveled in shorts that day... not as good of a story as it sounds at first.)
I'm going to try and explain how frustrating this whole thing was... I don't know if i can... It still makes me angry...and if you're a pilot on a commercial airline... do me a favor... TELL PEOPLE WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON...KEEP THEM UPDATED... DON'T JUST SIT UP THERE AND SAY NOTHING...TELL US YOU STILL KNOW NOTHING...AND NOT JUST ONCE AN HOUR... IF YOU'RE GOING TO MOVE THE PLANE...TELL US WHY YOU'RE DOING IT...DON'T MAKE US THINK WE'RE TAKING OFF.... we had that happen 3 or 4 times... One time, a plane took off right in front of us (going a different direction)...and we got right behind it on the runway...and then started down the runway.... and never sped up... went down a long way... and turned off.... the pilot stopped the plane and said "we had to get out of someone's way"....LET US KNOW BEFORE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T GET OUR HOPES UP.....UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
At one point, we were supposedly 6th for departure....and we had 37 planes lined up behind us.... at least they were out there less time than us.
Well, its an hour flight from Philly to C-town. So once we hit 6pm ...I called my agent...and had them call the club... They told us we were going to take off soon... 20 minutes... and I thought I'd make it...but i might be a little late... But that 20 minutes came and went... I kept in touch with the club throughout the night...we kept thinking I'd make it... even if I just made it to the second show... but we never even took off... It was like waiting for a punch line in an open mic'ers act. the time came...and we were laughing...not because it was good...but because it was just so pathetic.
If you're thinking... hey frank, why didn't you get on a different flight... well, then you'd be asking the same question i yelled at my agent for asking. of course i looked at everything. I even had a backup flight into Columbus, oh. (2 hours away.... that did leave)...BUT I COULDN'T GET OFF THE FREAKING PLANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They kept telling us we were going to go... THEY LIED....THEY LIED...AND THEY LIED AGAIN. heck, I could have driven and still made it... if they cancelled the plane before 2 instead of 10!!!!!!!!
Well, I'm still fighting to get my money back from continental... You figure if the plane doesn't ever go...you don't need to pay them, right? not what I'm being told right now... 400 dollar (one way) flight...and I can't get my money back? IT DIDN'T GO... IT NEVER LEFT...THAT SEEMS LIKE IT'S A REASON TO GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK.... they're going to hear from me more...hey, maybe president bush can call them???????
Maybe they'll become a bit... AL PACINO: GIVE ME MY MONEY....BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK.
As we were about to get off the plane... I asked a guy sitting next to me if he wanted to help me drive back. He'd recognized me earlier in the fake flight...and we talked for a while... Stan Green... the Bruce Bowen of Howard University's basketball team... A great guy. Going to interview with Ford this week in Michigan... Hey, If anyone for Ford is reading this... He's a WINNER... He put up with my Charles Barkley impression )(just started working on it...and its TRRBL.. .but kind of funny)... 6 hours of fake Bill Walton commenting on our terrible experience, and my vacuum cleaner like snoring that woke me up every 10 minutes or so.... To make a long story infinite.....We switched off driving...and made it safely into Cleveland before 7am the next morning. I returned the rental car...and went to get my car in the parking structure... I was so tired...I couldn't find my car in the parking lot, by the way....And I kept looking in the same places over and over..... I finally did...and got back home to the family...where my kids jumped on me... I took a 3 hour nap... Spent some time with my wife and kids and then got ready to do the shows on Saturday...
Ok...so here's the deal with the Friday audiences. They stayed and saw Don Reese...who filled in for me and KILLED... My gay friend Ryan Dolphston filled in as the middle act...and did great as well.... The audiences were treated to free shows that night...I know some people were angry...and some didn't believe we really tried everything to get me there, but we did...
Hilarities is a classy place...very classy. Nick, the owner, went up on stage and told the crowd I wasn't going to make it... Everyone thought he was joking... I guess they thought I was going to come out in madden makeup or something...and pretend it wasn't me... I wish that velveety idea was the reason....But He was being sincere...They had held the show long enough...and had to get it going... by the way...it was like shampoo instructions for them on the second show...WET, LATHER, RINSE... REPEAT.... We all were sure I was going to make the second show...but they just couldn't figure out how to fly planes that day.
Like I said, everyone got a great show that night...even though I wasn't there... it was free... and for the most part, I'm told that people were leaving disappointed....but happy with how it all came together.
IF YOU HAD A TICKET FOR THAT DAY...HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN DO:
1. GET A FULL REFUND ON IT FROM THE CLUB.
2. MOVE INTO THE SUNDAY SHOW WE HAVE SCHEDULED ON JULY 22.
We were already planning on doing that show...and it was starting to fill up... but this situation should fill it up pretty quickly... we may also add a second show, if there is a demand for it. (an earlier show...more like a matinee -- 5:30 pm or something).
I'm going to be doing some special stuff for the fans who come out that day...free autographed pictures...super duper cd deals, etc... we want people to be happy they came back...and have a great time.
The jeremy irony of this whole little blog? I'm on a plane in the air (on my way to shoot promos with the NFL on Fox guys--the reason i had to cancel my original Sunday night show a month or so ago)... on a wonderful Continental flight. (nice pilots who've talked to us a bunch of times...even though we're on time, etc.) and I'm going to get there early... Its all about when and where my friends... who? what? why? exactly. No. that didn't make sense...but neither did Friday.
Crack me. I'm out.

Leaving Hollywood, FL
I once again, stayed at the Hard Rock Resort... where Anna Nicole "moved on". If you haven't heard me talk about it. I was the last person to check out "successfully" from room 607. (i checked out of that room, she checked in...and then she....well, she checked out permanently. I've asked a lot of questions about that room here ... but the employees don't seem to know anything... ha... right... oh well, I guess i'd like to keep my job, too.
I was just here 4 months ago (for Superbowl week)...so I wasn't sure how the shows would do...but apparently I had no reason to be worried. I usually try to space things out to one visit per year... but this is a great club...with a great staff (I'll probably say that about every staff -- but i mean it this time).... so I was happy to be back so quickly.
On a side note. I ate Cafe Martorano (www.cafemartorano.com). the entire time I was here. I set a world record for meatball eating with 2,500,604 in 3 days. It you don't know of this restaurant... Its my favorite in the world... they have a 12 dollar meatball.. and ITS UNDERPRICED!!!!! They're that good..... People say... "You should try (fill in the restaurant)..." I'm like NO!!!!! If you're in heaven..and someone says "try this other heaven"... Its my heaven... It can't get any better.
Anyway, I'm home to Cleveland in a bit. (The family is there right now)... and I have the C-Bus Funnybone sold out) this week Tuesday and Wednesday... And then Friday and Saturday in Cleveland at Hilarities (a couple shows are almost already sold out). Luckily for me, the Cavs don't play on a day I'm doing a show!!!!!!!!!!! So, Thursday and Sunday watch the cavs -- Friday and Saturday come see the Cal. -- ugh...that was a stretch.
I'll check in with ya'all soon... until then. Get it done....
As always, I apologize for the poor grammar, lack of punctuation, and overuse of ellipses (...). I don't know why it's so hard for me to press the shift key when i'm supposed to. I've hit an all new low as far as laziness goes.
rack me. i'm out.
